Reflection Prompt: Reflect on how you perceive yourself as an online learner? Are you well-prepare to be an online leaner? Tell us about what you need to improve in order to be a successful online learner.
Description: I have been an online learner for 3 semesters now. I feel as if I am knowledgeable of the navigation of Springboard and understand the benefits to learning as well as my lifestyle. I do struggle with time management as online classes tend to be an out of sight, out of mind feeling at times when 3 children and a full time job take over. I feel I need to be deliberate with my time and make every second of my day count toward a daily or weekly goal. I have also gained a better understanding of what works and what is challenging in terms of lessons, LOs and the importance of discussions. I feel more confident this summer as an online learner than I did my first semester. I have gain an understanding of a system for my time and skills to get and stay focused on my learning.
Impact: I feel that if I weren't able to take this class online, I would still struggle with the need to find time outside of class for my lessons as well as find the time to attend class in person. I feel that I am more successful since I am able to work this class into my day instead of working my day around when the class is offered. At first I felt confident to take class, then I struggled with the time management piece. I came back the a second semester and had a better handle on how to adjust to be successful for the time management piece. This gives me a personal and deep understanding of how others approach online learning and can be specific in coaching such issues.
Intent: I will put a lesson out at the beginning of an online class of my own to address these concerns. I lived the struggle and can make my students feel comfortable coming to me for advice in this area. Time management can be a make it or break it piece and if I am able to show guidance and compassion in this area, I feel that will help me to be a better online instructor or coach.
